Mazda service takes many forms, few more important than brake maintenance and repairs. As Brown and Wood Mazda celebrates Brake Safety Awareness Month, we’re taking a moment to outline the importance of brake service and some of the essentials your car may need.
Brake Maintenance
Every vehicle has a recommended brake maintenance schedule outlined in the owner’s manual. Properly working brakes provide a safe trip whenever the car’s taken on the road.
Your brakes are a complex system requiring several components to work properly. The master cylinder, brake lines, brake pads, calipers, and rotors all require inspection and periodic maintenance. With prolonged use and wear, they’ll also need replacement.
While your owner’s manual outlines suggested mileage intervals, brakes wear differently than most other car parts. If most of your driving is on highways, those intervals are fine; if you spend considerable time in stop-and-go traffic, you’ll want to visit sooner.
How To Know If Your MAZDA Car Needs Brake Repairs
As you drive, you’ll get used to your Mazda car’s handling and braking characteristics. When they change, don’t ignore them. Pay particular attention to these warning signs, and if you notice them, bring your vehicle to a Mazda dealership for immediate service.
- An illuminated brake warning light
- Squealing noise
- Leaking brake fluid
- Burning odor
- A “mushy” brake pedal feel
- Longer stopping distances
- Shaking or vibrating in the steering wheel
